We work to empower women, widows, the disabled, HIV/AIDS infected and affected with skills through vocational training so that once they have gained skills they can be engaged in sustainable businesses to earn decent livelihoods.
***AGAPE means the love of Christ. Rachel Lungu used this name for her ministry to sex workers in Lilongwe. Famine forces women into prostitution. There are mouths to be fed and little food available. Starfish supports this work by helping the women to learn tailoring and offer them the opportunity of new life in Christ.
***HOPE Ministries, founded by Annie Mkandwire, reaches out to 3 poor communities on the fringes of Lilongwe: Kayabwa, Lemesi and Thugwalugwa. This is a community project encompassing nursery education, youth development, church growth, schools linking and women’s empowerment through
adult literacy classes and skills acquisition. Seed funding is provided to set up small businesses. The goal is for everyone to contribute to the success of community desperately seeking to escape the poverty trap.
***GLAD TIDINGS runs adult literacy and tailoring classes to support Key Workers and many HIV/Aids user groups |
