In Malawi hope is often in short supply. Constant poverty has drained the spirit from the people. Annie Mhandwire in 2003 visited 3 villages Lemesi, Thugwalugwa and Kayabwa, and under God's inspiration established Hope Ministries. This involves a community-led, child-focused work involving the establishment of:

1. 3 nursery schools
2. Adult literacy classes.
3. Training for work.
4. Seed-funding to launch a business.
5. Schools linking.
6. Youth development.

People who were once lost and crushed are blossoming so that the community itself has grown and prospered.

In 2009 the community of Chapsinja was added to the work as the chief of the village was converted and wanted so much to see his community grow. The building of the nursery school, church and all the running costs are met by Crowborough Christian Men's group.
