The Project Committee
Chris Knott, Chairman
Chris is the founder of the project after spending some time in Malawi last year with Derek Savage. He met Bob Mapemba and visited their existing school and church. He was so touched by the conditions they were working in that he felt led by God to embark on a project to build a new school building for the village of Salima.
Judith Pickford, Secretary
Judith has been a midwife - tutor and is now working in a local hospital. She has visited several poor areas of the world and is deeply concerned to try and do something to alleviate poverty in the world.
Terry Pickford, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer
Terry is a retired French teacher who is involved in a number of charities dealing with people living in deprived conditions.
Chris Merritt, Container
Chris is at present working for a local Insurance Broker. He is responsible for the container and can be contacted if you would like to help in any way or have any queries. See the heading CONTAINER in the index.
Kevin Marchese
Kevin is married with two children and is at present working with the London Underground. Having heard about Starfish Malawi from Derek Savage, he wanted to be involved in an hands-on way, so he was keen to visit Salima and help with the building. He and Simon both stayed with Bob and his family.
Yuri Knott - catering.
Yuri is married to Chris and is a Japanese teacher. She really appreciated her recent trip to Malawi but found the poverty and deprivation very upsetting.
John Hart - Cultural, Pastoral and Church Growth.
John and his wife Brenda served as missionaries in Ecuador in the seventies before returning to the UK where John was the pastor of Hawkhurst Baptist for many years. He was called back to Ecuador in 1993 to set up a training centre for local lay leaders. In 1997 he and Brenda started work on an orphanage project, ORPHaids, for the children of AIDS victims. They now live once again in Hawkhurst, raising awareness of ORPHaids in the UK. |
